The Village Club & Preserve Celebrates Grand Opening of Long-Anticipated Playground

Since rebuilding from the ground up and opening in the summer of 2019, leadership and volunteers at the helm of The Village Club & Preserve continue to dream of ways to enhance both the grounds and programming. 

“More than three years have passed since we opened our doors as a fledgling organization,” says Krista Singleton, President & Executive Director. “The financial support of our members and generosity of our volunteers has allowed us to carry on with  improvements to our grounds and additions to our calendar of events.” 

One of the most recent and notable improvements was the addition of a top-notch playground on their 10-acre grounds.

“Since our inception, we’ve had the goal of adding an active play feature for children,” said Krista. “That vision became a reality this summer, when we installed an amazing playground on our grounds.”

The specific playground chosen was based on input from “professional” park users (local moms!), poring over a variety of designs, and choosing a design that delivered the most "bang for the buck." It was also critical to choose a playground that was commercial, safe, incorporated all the features found in the best playgrounds (shade, a synthetic turf surface, etc.)--and a structure that would last for many years and generations to come.

Beyond writing for and receiving a grant to help offset the equipment cost, raising money from fall “Run for the Village” 5K events, and saving diligently, the VCP sought to raise the final funds needed for the project on May 5 by hosting a Cinco de Mayo-themed fundraiser held in collaboration with local non-profit, Our Community Table.

Thanks to the gracious hands and culinary talents of the Our Community Table team, nearly 50 families were served a delicious meal as attendees learned more about the project plans. From that event and through the month of May, above-and-beyond giving hit the $60,000 mark. Just one month later, on June 5, the VCP celebrated the opening of “Trooper Park,” named in honor of 11th Airborne Paratrooper and combat Veteran, James Holzem, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
